Carl Blount is a longtime Athens resident, small business partner, and dedicated Clarke County Schools parent running for the Board of Education in District 3. With two children who have been students in Clarke County since kindergarten, Carl brings more than sixteen years of firsthand experience with the school system to his candidacy. His passion for public education is both personal and generational. Raised in Waynesboro, Georgia by a mother who spent her career in the classroom, Carl grew up with a deep appreciation for the role public schools play in strengthening communities and expanding opportunity for all students.

Carl is a proud graduate of the University of Georgia. After graduating, he built a successful career in the insurance industry, with the last 20 years having run his own agency right here in Athens. Through this work, Carl collaborates with families, business owners, and community leaders across Athens, developing a leadership style rooted in listening, problem solving, and building lasting relationships.

Carl and his wife Elizabeth have called Athens home for more than twenty years. Their sons, Ashton and Thomas, have attended Barrow Elementary, Clarke Middle School, and Clarke Central High School, giving Carl a parent’s perspective on the strengths and challenges within the district. This lived experience shapes his belief that public education is one of society’s greatest levelers and a critical component of Athens’ future. He is committed to ensuring that every child, no matter their background, has the foundation needed to thrive.

Carl’s decision to run for the Board of Education grows from his desire to bring stability, collaboration, and student centered leadership back to the district. He believes the Board must work in true partnership with district leadership, support strong academic foundations in the early grades, address persistent opportunity gaps, and ensure that classrooms remain safe and focused environments for both students and teachers.

With a steady approach and a deep sense of responsibility to the community he has raised his family in, Carl is running to help Clarke County Schools reach their full potential. He envisions a district where governance is stable, students are supported, and the community’s shared commitment to public education is reflected in every classroom.

Meet Carl.
